I thought it might be good to document some of our cycling activities and adventures here.
28th June – wedding and bike race

Not just any wedding, our wedding. We became Mr and Mrs Spokey Dokey in a very bike themed event. I arrived by pedal powered rickshaw, we had a bike race (complete with race numbers) from the church to the village hall, we had a circle cycle, a pedal powered juke box and all the best people joined us in celebrating our marriage. It was fabulous.
30th June – Ravenscliffe school

We gave our third and final bike maintenance session at Ravenscliffe school, an SEND school, to a group of children. They had learnt how to do an M-check, change a tube when they get a puncture and more advanced brake pad and gear changing. We loved working with them and we’re sad it’s our last session. Happy cycling Ravenscliffe!
1st July – Cycling and paddle boarding
We got out for a short training ride, which was lovely, got some PRs on Strava and then switched to paddle-boarding with Cokie.
2nd July – William Henry Smith School
Again a third and final session with the boys at William Henry Smith, where they learnt about M-checks, got familiar with a range of tools. They were all really engaged in our sessions and did really well. Happy Cycling William Henry Smith School!
Also on the 2nd – Millennium Bridge birthday bike ride

The Millennium Bridge in York is 25 years old and so we had a birthday bike ride, complete with boom box bikes, a cycling mayor dressed as a unicorn 🦄, loads of conference guests for the national active travel conference. It was an awesome experience. We also met Peter who is doing the TCR like us starting later this month. We rode home at sunset, which was beautiful and I went straight to sleep as soon as we got home.
3rd July – Active Travel Conference

Rob attended the active travel conference and met loads of awesome and interesting people. This is definitely an area we want to get more involved with and we also heard we’ve been successful in receiving Cycling UK/Active Travel England funding for some bike maintenance sessions in September and October.
Also on 3rd July – Rampage Leeds (car park race)

We both took part in a bonkers event, raising money for Yorkshire Children’s Charity. The event sees you race up 5 floors of victoria car park in Leeds.
You do a time trial to start, then a race against your opposite and then a final race against your nearest timed competitor. That final race was amazing, so closely matched, what a buzz. Rob won his race, I lost mine but still loved it. There’ll be a video to watch soon.
4th July – Some bike maintenance and cycling with Everybody’s cycling in York

I’m writing this in the morning but this is the plan for today. Fix some bikes, ride some bikes with some lovely people who also like bikes 😊
We do have to fit other things in around our cycling adventures as I’m sure you all do to. Happy cycling!
Coming up next week – preparations for our 2nd sportive which is running on 31st August, training, fun event in Bradford, route planning for TCR.
