Longer break than planned!

So on my last post I said we’d be back in Spring 23, erm well, that didn’t happen.

There were some reasons for that, not least house moving, new job, completing two Ironman events (Tallinn and Copenhagen), Rob braking his pelvis, some more house moving back to Whixley and getting engaged. But now things have settled down a bit, I think we can get this going again 😁

It’s gonna be different though, one Sunday a month will be dedicated to community repairs at cost price from my garage.

You might get some friendly advice on more complex things but generally I’ll send you onto a lovely local bike shop for anything substantial.

This is because I love bikes, I don’t love doing unappreciated hard work and repairing bikes is hard, complicated, dirty. I do it because I want to, because I’m passionate about bikes and not because someone paid me (not enough to cover minimum wage) to do it. I want to bring back the community aspect to Spokey Dokey, I want to help new cyclists get comfortable and lapsed cyclists get going again, talk passionately with fellow enthusiasts about tech and parts. I don’t want the hard problems (internal routing, seized parts, etc) and ungrateful customers who are rude when a supplier lets you down. I want to make people smile because they can ride their bike again.

I do this because I love bikes and cycling (and apparently now triathlon!?) So I’m going to make it work for me and Rob. Which strangely enough means doing it less often and for free (like a hobby). So I’m going to dedicate one Sunday a month, I’m hoping some others will join me and I’ll fix punctures, change brake pads, do bike checks, talk tech or translate tech, show people how to fix things themselves. And keep people cycling. Or get people cycling.

The first Spokey Sunday is 18th February 2024. You’ll find the new workshop behind the village shop in Whixley.

Hopefully see some old and new faces then. Facebook is the only contact that’ll be monitored for the time being.

Watch out for another exciting update very soon about riding bikes….

And save the date 8th September!

Happy Cycling!
