Bike Repairs

Just tell us what you did. Please.

Honesty makes diagnosing a bike problem considerably easier.

How Our Workshop Works

Our workshop is open April–October by appointment.

Because we also provide freelance mechanics and event support, we’re often out and about. We don’t operate like a traditional bike shop with someone permanently behind a counter.

You can still contact us at any time to check availability. We sometimes have space at short notice.

1. Get in touch

Tell us what’s wrong with your bike and what you’d like doing.

If possible, give us as much information as you can. Photos are useful too.

2. We’ll give you an estimate

We’ll have a look and give you an idea of what the repair is likely to cost.

Once we get the bike in, we’ll carry out a basic check because sometimes there are things that aren’t obvious from the original problem.

3. We order the parts

We keep a limited supply of common parts and tubes, but we don’t try to stock everything.

That means we usually need to order parts for your bike.

Please allow around 2–7 days for parts and repairs.

We aim for next-day delivery where possible, but sometimes parts take longer to arrive.

4. We repair and test it

We’ll fit the parts, make the adjustments and test ride the bike.

Sometimes that reveals another issue. We’d rather tell you about it than send you away with a bike that isn’t quite right.

5. You get your bike back

We’ll explain what we’ve done and anything you should keep an eye on.

New cables and some other components can need a little bedding in or adjustment after you’ve ridden the bike, so don’t be surprised if we suggest bringing it back for a tweak.

Please Don’t Bring Your Bike In Three Days Before Your Big Event

We really mean this. If you’re preparing for a sportive, holiday or other important ride, give us at least two weeks if possible. If we’re making significant changes, such as fitting a new saddle, crankset or stem, we’d recommend a month before a big event. That’s partly because we need time to source and fit parts. It’s also because your body needs time to get used to significant changes to your bike. A bike can be mechanically perfect and still feel completely wrong if you’ve changed your position three days before riding 100 miles.

What We Don’t Do

We’re happy to work on lots of different bikes, but we’re not the right workshop for everything.

High-end and specialist bikes

If your bike is worth £3,000+ or is a particularly specialist machine, we’d generally recommend going back to the specialist shop that sold it. We’re happy to help with straightforward jobs such as chains and tubes where appropriate, but we don’t pretend to be specialists in every high-end component or system.

E-bikes

We’re not electricians. We can generally help with mechanical jobs such as tubes, tyres and chains, but we’re limited when it comes to electrical systems and diagnostics. Very heavy e-bikes can also be difficult for us to work on safely.

Last-minute jobs

If you’re racing this weekend and your bike needs a complete rebuild, please don’t leave it until Thursday. We may be able to help, but our workload and parts availability mean we can’t promise it.

We Don’t Do Rush Jobs

We’re a small business with several things going on. We provide event mechanics. We run community activities. We travel. We support projects. We’re not interested in building a system where everything is about doing more bikes, faster. We’d rather do a good job than squeeze another ten bikes into the diary. So if you’re a high-pressure customer who needs everything done yesterday, we’re probably not the workshop for you. If you’re happy to have a conversation, wait for the right parts and let us do the job properly, we’d love to hear from you.

Bikes Bought Online

Yes, we’ll build them. But please talk to us before you buy one if you can. There are some brilliant bikes available online. There are also some very heavy, uncomfortable and surprisingly expensive ways of buying a bicycle. Sometimes a good-quality second-hand bike will give you a much better ride for your money. We’re happy to talk bikes before you spend the money.

Restoration Projects & Bags of Bits

We like these. They’re not always quick or cheap. Sourcing the correct parts for an old bike can take time, and a box containing seventeen unrelated bicycle components is occasionally a puzzle with consequences. But if you’ve got an old bike you really want to save, talk to us. We can fit restoration work around our other jobs and work out what’s worth doing.

We’re Here to Help You Keep Riding

We genuinely believe that keeping a good bike going is often better than replacing it. We’ll tell you when something needs fixing. We’ll tell you when something isn’t worth fixing. And if we think another workshop is better placed to help, we’ll say so. No hard sell. No mysterious bicycle jargon. No pretending your bike needs £600 of work when it actually needs a cable.

Just honest bike mechanics who like keeping bikes on the road.
