Support & Projects

Got an idea? Let’s see if we can make it happen.

People come to us with all sorts of ideas and questions.

Sometimes they know exactly what they need. Sometimes they just know they want to get more people cycling and aren’t quite sure where to start.

We’ve been asked to teach parents how to fix bikes, support refugees to repair their own bikes, provide mechanics for athletes racing across countries, help Scouts achieve their cycling badges, advise on cycling accessibility and deliver sessions for schools, youth clubs, businesses and community groups.

We’ve fixed smoothie bikes, KMX trikes and other wonderfully unusual bits of cycling equipment.

And if your idea is particularly quirky, even better.

Tell us what you’re trying to achieve. We’ll see what we can do.

What can we help with?

Cycling projects

If you’re trying to get more people cycling, we’d love to be involved.

We can help with:

We’re particularly passionate about getting people who are underrepresented in cycling involved and helping people build confidence, not just in riding a bike but in understanding and looking after one too.

Sometimes learning to fix your own puncture is a surprisingly powerful thing.

We can be the mechanic, the organiser or the person who figures it out

We’re happy to fit into a project in whatever way makes sense.

We can:

Lead a project
From the initial idea through planning and delivery.

Work alongside your team
Bringing specialist cycling, mechanics, accessibility or event experience to an existing project.

Freelance
Need a couple of mechanics for an event? That’s something we do regularly.

Help with funding
We’ve contributed to active travel funding applications, worked with funders and local authorities, and can help you think through what might be possible and what your project could achieve.

Deliver and evaluate
We’re used to recording participation, collecting feedback and providing the information needed to demonstrate outcomes.

We’ve worked with…

Our work has included projects and freelance delivery for local authorities, charities, cycling organisations, schools, youth clubs, businesses, events and elite athletes.

We’ve worked with organisations including City of York Council, YNYCA, York Cycle Campaign, Cycling UK, Walk Wheel Cycle Trust and Everybody’s Cycling, as well as supporting projects funded through WYCA.

We’ve provided specialist cycling support to athletes and racing organisations, including the Transcontinental Race, and supported Paralympians and other high-level cyclists.

We’ve also worked with plenty of people who aren’t remotely interested in racing across Europe and just want to learn how to keep their bike going.

We’re equally happy with both.

A few things we’ve done…

Youth Bike Box Project

We’ve worked with young people to repair and learn about bikes, including refugees and young people from local youth clubs.

The aim wasn’t simply to hand them a working bike.

It was to give them the skills and confidence to understand it, fix it and keep it going themselves.

Inclusive cycling

We’ve delivered adapted cycling sessions, advised on accessibility, trained trainers and supported disabled cyclists.

We’ve worked with adapted bikes, unusual cycles and people with very different needs and abilities.

Our starting point is usually:

What would make it possible for this person to ride?

Pan Celtic Race

We supported Mel Nicholls as she hand-cycled around Ireland in the Pan Celtic.

It involved specialist mechanical knowledge, event support and a fair amount of figuring things out as we went.

It’s one of those projects that reminds us why we love what we do.

Get Active in West Yorkshire

We’ve delivered cycling activities and unusual pedal-powered attractions at community events, including smoothie bikes and pedal-powered Scalextric.

Because apparently sometimes the best way to get people interested in cycling is to let them race cars with their legs.

And then there are the really odd ideas…

We’ve:

And we’re currently thinking about building a pedal-powered Scalextric and dreaming up the Penguin Pedal, a mid-winter family cycling event.

So if you’re sitting there thinking:

“This is probably a ridiculous idea, but…”

Please finish that sentence.

We’d genuinely love to hear it.

Why cycling?

Because cycling changed my life.

It made me realise that I was an active, adventurous person. I discovered that I loved riding bikes, fixing bikes and figuring out where a bike could take me.

And I want other people to experience that too.

Cycling can improve physical and mental health. It can help people get around, save money, connect with their communities and experience places differently. It can give children independence and adults confidence. It can be a practical tool for communities and a brilliant way of having fun.

There aren’t many things we can think of that have so many benefits.

So we’re pretty passionate about getting more people on bikes.

Got a project in mind?

It doesn’t have to be fully formed.

You don’t need a perfect brief, a finished risk assessment or even to know exactly what you’re asking for.

Tell us what you’re trying to achieve, what you’ve got to work with and what you’re wondering about.

We’ll have a chat and see if we can help.

The quirkier the better.
